Johnny Manziel threw water bottle at fan who was harassing him

Johnny Manziel was reportedly involved in an incident with a fan at the Byron Nelson Classic on Saturday.

Police in Irving, Texas confirmed to Mary Kay Cabot of Northeast Ohio Media Group that Manziel threw a water bottle at an 18-year-old fan who had been harassing him from just outside the pool area at the Four Seasons, which is the resort where the PGA tournament is taking place. One of Manziel’s friends stepped in to intervene before hotel security arrived.

Police were called to the scene to speak to both Manziel and the fan, but no charges were filed. A police spokesman also noted that there was no indication that Manziel had been drinking.

Manziel’s agent Erik Burkhardt insists he handled the incident “appropriately.”

While we don’t know what the fan was saying and we’re not excusing his actions, this is exactly the type of situation that Manziel needs to avoid. He needs to distance himself from people like that and keep walking rather than giving them the reaction they want, which in this case was throwing the water bottle.

If you remember, Manziel and his crew were involved in an altercation with some fans last year at the downtown hotel complex where Manziel used to live. The fan who accused Manziel of throwing a sucker punch later apologized.

Everything we have heard from Manziel’s teammates this offseason has been positive, though a recent report indicated that he is being phased out of the Browns’ offense.
