Johnny Manziel told his parents he would earn degree

Johnny-Manziel

Johnny Manziel has reenrolled at Texas A&M and is planning to take classes this fall. Why? Because he promised his parents he would earn his degree.

Manziel, who left Texas A&M for the NFL after his junior season, told TMZ this week that he has already started a class.

“I’m trying to get back to my roots,” he said. “I need to get my degree like I told my parents I would.”

Manziel did not say how many classes he needs to complete in order to graduate. He also did not comment on whether his return to school will affect his NFL comeback attempt. The 23-year-old was majoring in recreation, parks and tourism sciences before he left early for the NFL Draft.

While many doubt that Manziel will get his act together, perhaps there was some truth behind the comments one of the quarterback’s friends recently made. Manziel has struggled with drug and alcohol issues and is nowhere near being ready to return to professional football. Earning a degree — if he goes through with it — would definitely be a step toward showing teams he is taking life seriously.
