Report: Johnny Manziel ‘untouchable’ to NFL teams unless he seeks treatment

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel’s on-field performance over the past two seasons has been a disappointment, but his life off the field has been a disaster. The latter is the reason he might not find a job in the NFL this summer.

Emily Kaplan of The MMQB reports that at least two teams had interest in Manziel before the quarterback was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley. One of those teams was the Dallas Cowboys. Now, according to Kaplan, Manziel is considered “untouchable” unless he seeks treatment.

Even if Manziel seeks treatment, why should NFL teams think the results will be any different than when he checked into rehab last summer? Either that stay was merely a PR stunt, or Manziel has a serious alcohol issue and relapsed before long.

Multiple reports have indicated that the Cowboys are no longer interested in Manziel, despite owner Jerry Jones’ infatuation with the former Texas A&M star. Manziel was finally released by the Browns last week. He has been spotted out partying almost every single night since the end of the season, and one Instagram model provided some details about her weekend in Miami with Manziel.

Signing Manziel would be a massive risk even if it doesn’t cost much, especially with a grand jury trying to decide if he should be charged with assault after his ex-girlfriend made these disturbing allegations. We wouldn’t be surprised if no team feels Manziel is worth it.
