Joseph Randle released by Cowboys

Joseph-Randle-Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys released Joseph Randle on Tuesday following what has been an incredibly bizarre couple of weeks for the 23-year-old running back.

Clarence Hill of the Star-Telegram was the first to report the news.

Randle’s season appeared to suddenly come apart when he left the Cowboys’ Week 7 game against the New York Giants with an oblique injury, though the timing of the drama that followed was a coincidence. First came the talk of the NFL investigating Randle over a drug-related incident that took place back in February. No charges were filed, but Randle could end up facing a suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

Perhaps more troubling are the reports we have heard about Randle dealing with “personal issues” off the field. The former Oklahoma State star called police last week to request that they do a well-being check on his girlfriend at his home in Texas, though she turned out to be fine.

As if that wasn’t enough, there were also rumblings that Randle stormed out of the Cowboys’ facility when he learned that Darren McFadden had supplanted him as the team’s starting tailback. It would be a surprise if Randle plays again this season.
