Joseph Randle suspended four games for personal conduct violation

Joseph Randle Cowboys

And the hits just keep on coming for free agent running back Joseph Randle.

On Tuesday, the NFL slapped Randle with a four-game suspension for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The former Cowboys running back was released by the team earlier this month.

Randle’s suspension likely stems from an arrest for possession of marijuana back in February. Since he is not currently on an NFL roster, Randle would serve his punishment upon potentially signing with another team.

The talent is certainly there for the 23-year-old Oklahoma State product. But character issues (including storming out of the Cowboys’ practice facility last month upon learning that he lost his starting job to Darren McFadden) as well as some off-the-field personal issues (most notably his recent request that police do a well-being check on his girlfriend as well as a preposterous and humiliating shoplifting incident back in 2014) have derailed a promising football career.

Randle’s suspension lessens the odds that a team will be amenable to taking on his baggage this season. But if Randle can sit out the rest of the 2015 campaign and get his life in order, he’s still young and talented enough to get his NFL career back on track.
