Report: Joseph Randle could be suspended over marijuana incident

Joseph Randle Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle abruptly left the team’s facility Wednesday after finding out he has lost his starting job, but he may have bigger issues to worry about than his spot on the depth chart.

Todd Archer and Adam Schefter of ESPN are reporting that the NFL recently determined that Randle violated the league’s personal conduct policy when he was arrested for possession of marijuana back in February. Randle was legally cleared when the charges were dropped in April, but league investigators looked further into the incident over the summer and reportedly decided this week that Randle’s “best-case scenario” is a fine and that he could be suspended for multiple games.

Randle’s drug arrest came after police received a call for domestic violence with a weapon in an incident between Randle and the mother of his son. According to the police report, the woman claimed Randle broke a car window during an argument and threatened her with a gun while their son was nearby.

The arrest was Randle’s second in two months, as he was booked before that for an extremely embarrassing shoplifting incident at a retail store. He received six months probation and was fined an undisclosed amount by the Cowboys.

Randle left team headquarters Wednesday and skipped treatment after being informed that Darren McFadden is now the Cowboys’ No. 1 back, but the ESPN report indicates his decision to leave was not just about that. It’s possible Randle was also upset after learning that he could be facing discipline from the NFL.
