Josh Gordon said to be doing ‘outstanding’

Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon has missed the entire season due to a suspension for repeated violations of the league’s substance abuse policy, but he is said to be doing quite well.

Gordon remains in close contact with his Cleveland Browns teammate, quarterback Johnny Manziel, who says the two speak regularly.

“I still talk to Josh every week, so we’ve been in touch constantly throughout the season,” Manziel said Wednesday via the Akron Beacon Journal. “I got a chance to see him. I invited him down to the [Texas] A&M game [Nov. 7]. We’ve been in constant contact. I think he’s doing the right things.

“From everything I’ve seen, he’s been working out each and every day in L.A., working really hard, so he’s still here. We still have his rights. He’s still a part of this team. I can only speak for me, and I’m excited to have him back. I hope he is back in the spring for sure.”

Gordon will be eligible for reinstatement by the league on Feb. 3, which is a year after his ban was announced. Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot says Gordon is “doing outstanding.”

Gordon was one of the most dynamic receivers in the league when he played in 2013. He had 87 catches for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns, and that was in just 14 games. He had a suspension that season and only played in five games last season due to another suspension.

If he is able to get reinstated, he would provide a huge boost to the Browns next season. Between him, Gary Barnidge and Travis Benjamin, you’d be talking about some dangerous weapons in the passing game. Of course, the big question is if he will get reinstated and be able to stay out of trouble. That has proven darn near impossible for him since college.
