Josh Gordon reportedly tested positive for alcohol
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon is facing a one-year suspension from the NFL after he reportedly failed another drug test. Pro Football Talk reports that alcohol is the substance Gordon tested positive for.
As a result of his arrest for driving while impaired back in July, alcohol is one of the substances the NFL now tests Gordon for. The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to his DWI charge in September in order to avoid an automatic two-game suspension before the NFL’s revised drug policy took effect.
The NFL’s new drug policy is spelled out clearly, and Gordon knew he would be taking a risk if he consumed alcohol. Assuming the reports are true, it is highly unlikely that he will win any appeal he might choose to file.
Since coming into the NFL via the supplemental draft in 2012, Gordon has tested positive for codeine syrup, marijuana and now alcohol in addition to being arrested for DWI. Given what was recently reported about the Browns feelings toward Gordon, it is a virtual certainty that the team will part ways with him in the near future.
