Report: Josh McCown, Jets have begun contract discussions
The New York Jets’ quarterback wheel may have landed on its latest victim.
Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports on Saturday that free agent quarterback Josh McCown is visiting with the Jets for a second day, and the two sides are serious enough that they have begun to discuss contract parameters.
The 37-year-old journeyman threw for 1,100 yards, six touchdowns, and six interceptions in five appearances for the Cleveland Browns last season.
McCown, who was also said earlier this week to be drawing interest from another major metropolitan team, wouldn’t be much more than a placeholder under center in New York. But no quarterback seems likely to move the needle for what should be a fairly lousy Jets team next season, so they have some incentive to buy time waiting for Christian Hackenberg and/or Bryce Petty to mature as well as for the rest of their roster to round into shape.
