Report: Josh Norman wants to be highest paid corner in NFL

Josh Norman

Panthers cornerback Josh Norman still isn’t close to an agreement on a long-term contract, and his demands are reportedly high.

According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, Norman wants a long-term deal in the range of $16 million annually, which would make him the highest paid corner in the league.

The two sides are reportedly “nowhere close” to an agreement, and Norman has not signed the $13.95 million franchise tag that the team hit him with at the beginning of March.

Norman has begun to pressure the Panthers publicly with OTAs and minicamp looming, as he and his agent are seeking the security of a long-term deal.

“I can’t report if I haven’t signed anything so I don’t feel as if I’m at the point where I’m ready to get back to working right now,” Norman told NFL Network.

Norman has been very clear about his willingness to wait for the Panthers to give him the deal he feels he deserves. He can only wait so long, of course – if he doesn’t sign by week 10, he’ll get nothing – but that’s a long way off, and Norman seems prepared to wait it out.
