Ken Whisenhunt ticked off about low hit on Marcus Mariota
Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt is upset with the Miami Dolphins over a low hit committed against rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota on Sunday.
Mariota was hit in the lower leg around the knee by Olivier Vernon after he released a pass.
“I think it was done with the idea of trying to hurt our QB and that’s (bulls—) football,” Whisenhunt said after the game via Titans reporter Jim Wyatt.
Whisenhunt also said after the game that Mariota will have his knee tested because it is sore from the hit. The No. 2 overall pick went 21-of-33 for 219 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He was sacked six times. Zach Mettenberger entered the game and attempted eight passes on the team’s final drive.
The one good takeaway from the hit is that Mariota says Vernon apologized to him for it at the end of the game.
