Kirk Cousins was offered $16 million per season from Washington

Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins will be playing the upcoming season for the Washington Redskins under the franchise tag, which will place his salary at nearly $20 million. He would have liked to reach a long-term deal with Washington, but that was not in the cards as the team did not offer what he felt he deserved.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the top offer from Washington to Cousins was for $16 million per season with about $24 million in guarantees.

In a market where Andrew Luck just signed for nearly $140 million, including $87 million guaranteed, and Brock Osweiler got $18 million a season, you can understand why Cousins would be holding out for more. He may not be in Luck’s class, but he certainly can claim he’s more accomplished than Osweiler.

Now Cousins just needs to repeat his success of a season ago, which included a 4,166-yard, 29-touchdown effort, before he can really double down on his monetary demands.
