Kirk Cousins made ‘Lord of the Rings’ reference on sidelines

Kirk Cousins is not your ordinary quarterback. After all, how many NFL quarterbacks drop “Lord of the Rings” references during the middle of their games? The Washington Redskins’ quarterback does.

Cousins was mic’d up for NFL Films’ “Sound FX” for the team’s Week 15 win over the Buffalo Bills. Towards the end of the game, the former Michigan State quarterback made his fandom of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books known.

“Today, the gray became the white,” Cousins told some linemen near the end of the game, via DC Sports Bog. “We look to the east.”

“Hey, let’s take our knees and go back to the shire, alright?” he also said.

And how many of his teammates do you think knew he was making reference to Gandalf’s changes after death and The Hobbit? Probably not many of them, but as long as he was leading them to wins, they likely don’t care. But for a guy with spending habits such as his, his mentality of quoting fantasy books/movies during games isn’t much of a surprise.
