Kirk Cousins reportedly asked Washington to trade him

Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins reportedly wants out of Washington, but his boss has no intention of granting him his wish.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Cousins has gone to team owner Daniel Snyder personally to request a trade. Snyder supposedly told the quarterback it is not happening.

Cousins could respond by threatening to hold out and not sign his franchise tender, which is worth $23.94 million for the 2017 season. A report from Wednesday indicated there is bad blood between Snyder and new San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan stemming from the way Snyder fired Kyle’s father Mike in 2013.

There is a growing sense that Cousins wants to play for Shanahan and the 49ers, and he is likely going to sign with San Francisco when he becomes a free agent next offseason. If that’s the case, you would think Washington would want to trade Cousins now and potentially get a first-round pick in return. However, there are clearly some personal issues standing in the way.

Simply put, Washington is currently a mess. You can read more about the ongoing drama here, but the bottom line is Cousins wants out. It’s hard to blame him.
