Larry Fitzgerald: Adrian Peterson ‘would mean a tremendous amount’ to Cardinals

Adrian-Peterson-Larry-Fitzgerald

Larry Fitzgerald recently restructured his contract with the Arizona Cardinals in a way that could very well keep him with the team for the remainder of his career. And now, the eight-time Pro Bowler seems interested in having Adrian Peterson join him in pursuit of a championship.

While golfing in the LPGA Founder’s Cup Pro-Am on Wednesday, Fitzgerald told the Cardinals’ official website that adding a running back like Peterson would be a “game-changer.”

“Obviously, he’s an MVP-caliber player,” he said. “Everybody knows that. Any team he ends up with — or if he stays with the Vikings — is going to have a great back. If he was to come play here, it would obviously mean a tremendous amount for our ballclub.”

Tampering, anyone? When New York Jets owner Woody Johnson — who is still being investigated by the NFL — was accused of tampering with Darrelle Revis several months ago, we gave you an example that the NFL uses that would constitute tampering. Here it is:

“He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.”

That sounds a lot like what Fitzgerald had to say about Peterson, who is still under contract with the Vikings.

Anyway, the Vikings have informed Peterson that they have no intention of releasing him, despite the fact that he still has “concerns” about the team after meeting with representatives earlier this month. If Peterson wants to play for a team like the Cardinals, he will likely have to agree to restructure his contract and lower his salary cap hit.

Perhaps Fitzgerald can convince Peterson (privately, of course) to take less many for a shot at winning a Super Bowl. If not, AP could be stuck in Minnesota.
