LeGarrette Blount returns to Patriots
LeGarrette Blount will re-sign with the New England Patriots less than 24 hours after being cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson.
Blount spent the 2013 season with the Patriots, carrying the ball 153 times for 772 yards and seven touchdowns. With the way rookie running back Jonas Gray ran against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, Blount is likely more of a depth signing for New England who will mix in with a handful of touches per game.
One of Blount’s best games as a pro came in the opening round of the playoffs last season, when he gashed the Colts for 166 yards and four touchdowns.
The Steelers decided to part ways with Blount after he left the field before the conclusion of their win over the Tennessee Titans on Monday. Center Maurkice Pouncey later called the decision to cut Pouncey a “blessing in disguise” and said the Steelers don’t need him.
Blount isn’t going to be the feature guy in New England, but he would obviously rather play for Bill Belichick.
