Le’Veon Bell wants Steelers to run the ball more

Le'Veon Bell

The Steelers did not run the ball very often against the Jaguars on Sunday. That is something Le’Veon Bell hopes does not continue.

Pittsburgh dropped to 3-2 on the season after a 30-9 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. The Steelers, as a team, ran the ball 20 times. Obviously, trailing much of the second half played a part, but Bell did not feel 20 rushes was enough.

“The Jaguars, they ran the ball a lot of times. You can see over the course of the game just wearing down the defense,” Bell said, via ESPN. “Running the ball shortens the game, kind of opens up the offense, makes passing the ball easier, gets you in manageable downs. I think just over the course of the season you’ll see the teams that run the ball heavy win games.”

Pittsburgh has one of the best offensive lines in football and Bell is certainly among the NFL’s most dynamic offensive players. If the Steelers are going to have a successful season, it’s a pretty good chance Bell will have a substantial role in making that happen.

Next up for the Steelers is a meeting with the Chiefs next Sunday. Through five games, Kansas City has allowed 4.6 yards per carry, which is 27th in the NFL. That might be a good time to feed Bell and see if he can carry the Steelers to a victory, especially with Ben Roethlisberger declaring after last week’s game he “may not have it anymore.”
