Louis Delmas has to give up his pet alligator for Kevin Ogletree

Louis-Delmas-LionsDetroit Lions safety Louis Delmas is a fantastic teammate. How do we know this? Delmas was willing to give up a member of his family so teammate Kevin Ogletree can live with him.

Five years ago, former Lions linebacker Ernie Sims — a known collector of exotic animals — gave Delmas an alligator egg. That egg hatched and the contents of it grew into a six-foot reptile named Mojo, who lived in Delmas’ basement until recently. Unfortunately, Delmas had to give Mojo up because he has outgrown his environment. Plus, Louis’ new roommate wasn’t having it.

“I told him I couldn’t stay there with the gator there, so he had to make some adjustments for the New York City kid,” Ogletree told MLive.com.

Delmas found Ogletree’s fear of his pet pretty entertaining, noting that he wouldn’t even go near the basement while Mojo was living down there in his tank.

“I wish he would have come down there and put his hand in there,” Delmas said. “He’ll be all right. He’s Ogletree. He’ll catch with one hand.”

It’s probably best for everyone that the six-foot beast no longer live in a basement. A local exotic animal shop came and got Mojo when Delmas had to give him up for adoption. From there, he may be donated to the zoo. That seems like a safer environment for a six-foot gator.

Beware, Darnell Dockett — you may be faced with the same problem a couple of years from now.
