ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Sanchez visited Dr. James Andrews, who determined the quarterback has a tear in his labrum. Mortensen says Sanchez is likely to have surgery on the shoulder.
New York Post Jets reporter Brian Costello says Sanchez has not yet decided to have surgery, though that possibility has not been ruled out. New York Daily News Jets reporter Manish Mehta also says Sanchez has not yet opted for surgery and is instead focused on rehabbing his injury.
Sanchez injured his shoulder after being driven by a defender into the turf during the New York Jets’ preseason finale against the New York Giants last month. Rookie Geno Smith was having an awful game, and the Jets decided to put Sanchez in the game in the fourth quarter, which is when he got injured.
Sanchez’s shoulder injury kept him out of Week 1 of the season, and it may keep him out for the season. If Sanchez undergoes surgery, it would likely knock him out for the season and end his career with the Jets.Google+
