Marshawn Lynch shows up to Seahawks minicamp

Marshawn-Lynch-Amazing-RunMarshawn Lynch wants a new contract from the Seattle Seahawks, but he may not be willing to pay a fine in an attempt to get one. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lynch showed up to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

Last week, a report indicated that Lynch was expected to skip minicamp in search of a new deal. He did not attend any of Seattle’s voluntary workouts during the offseason and is supposedly looking for a contract with more money up front. Lynch is entering the third year of a four-year, $30 million deal that will cost the Seahawks $9 million against the cap in 2015. He’ll likely be cut after this season if he doesn’t restructure.

Had Lynch not reported to mandatory minicamp, the team would be entitled to fine him $70,000. Terry Blount of ESPN.com reports that Lynch does not want to pay the fine and believes the Seahawks will negotiate with him in order to make both sides happy.

While Lynch has more touchdowns than any non-quarterback player in the NFL since 2011, the Seahawks have already stated that they will use a running back by committee approach this season. Their insistence on getting second-year running back Christine Michael involved almost certainly weakens Lynch’s position.
