Marshawn Lynch expected to skip minicamp, seeking new contract

Marshawn-Lynch-Better-PreparationMarshawn Lynch is reportedly expected to be absent when the Seattle Seahawks begin mandatory minicamp next week. Word has it Beast Mode wants a new contract.

“It’s very, very unlikely that Lynch will be there,” a source reportedly told ESPN.com’s Terry Blount. “He wants the Seahawks to renegotiate his current contract and provide him with more up-front money.”

Lynch has not attended any voluntary workouts this offseason. He is entering the third year of a four-year, $30 million deal and there has already been speculation that Lynch could be a salary cap casualty after this season. He will count for $7 million against the cap this year and a whopping $9 million in 2015 if the Seahawks keep him.

Earlier this month, Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said the Seahawks are planning to go with a running back by committee approach this season. While Lynch’s 39 touchdowns since the 2011 season are the most of any running back, he is getting expensive and old. He probably knows that, which is why he is looking to remedy the situation before he’s left looking for work.
