Matthew Stafford’s wife calls former offensive coordinator ‘desperate’

Kelly-Hall-Matthew-Stafford-engaged

Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly is sticking up for her husband again after former offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was critical of the quarterback’s ability to run the offense.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Around the NFL that the recently-fired Lombardi was “frustrated” that Stafford struggled to grasp the offense, and that Lombardi felt he could not put too much on Stafford’s plate. Rapoport was also told that new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter had to “simplify” the offense to accomodate Stafford.

Kelly Stafford took to Instagram on Friday to rebut this report, sharing images of a few tweets from Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky, who was also critical of Lombardi’s comments. She called Lombardi “desperate” and even cited Stafford’s Wonderlic store.

“That is seriously comical,” Stafford wrote. “Come after the way he plays all you want, but the second you come after his intelligence is when you look far too desperate. #wonderlic38”

Judging by Orlovsky’s comments, it seems as though Lombardi may not have been terribly popular with Lions players, so maybe this is sour grapes from the former Lions offensive coordinator and Kelly Stafford has a point after all. This isn’t the first time she’s stuck up for Matthew Stafford or his team. Earlier this season, she called NFL refs incompetent.
