Mayor of Philadelphia wants Nick Foles to start over Carson Wentz in Week 1

Nick Foles

Carson Wentz has indicated on several occasions that his surgically-repaired knee feels healthy and that he wants to play when the regular season begins, but at least one important figure in Philadelphia wants to see the Eagles play things safe.

TMZ caught up with Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney this week, and he was asked if he would prefer to see Nick Foles or Wentz in Week 1. Kenney wants Foles under center, but mostly because he is concerned about Wentz rushing back.

“I would rather Foles,” Kenney said. “I’m not Doug Pederson, of course. I think Wentz — knee injuries are strange and you need to make sure he’ll be fully recovered before (playing). I know Wentz will be chomping at the bit to start, and that’s a good environment to be in, that they both want to start. But, I think just to be safe, Foles probably.”

The Eagles are in a great position knowing that they have the best backup quarterback in the league. Unless Wentz is 100 percent healthy and up to speed, there’s no reason to rush him when they could give him a few more weeks and have a QB that just led them to a championship stand in his place.

Wentz gave an update on his Week 1 status during a radio interview this week, and it sounds like it could go either way.
