Report: Melvin Gordon suffered ‘very minor’ bone bruise in knee

Melvin Gordon left Sunday’s game with an apparent knee injury, but the San Diego Chargers running back is reportedly not dealing with anything serious.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFl Media, Gordon suffered a “very minor” bone bruise and would have returned to the game if he had his choice.

Gordon was limited in practice all week with a knee injury, so it’s unclear if the bone bruise is what was bothering him. The important thing for the Chargers is that there is no structural damage for the star back, whose 2016 season was cut short because of hip and knee injuries.

Gordon scored 12 touchdowns for the Chargers last season and already has two this year. He is arguably the most important piece of the team’s offense outside of Philip Rivers. That likely explains why San Diego chose to play it safe with him on Sunday.
