Michael Bennett: Mark Sanchez is trying to impersonate a good QB

Mark-Sanchez-Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday thanks in part to a rough day from Mark Sanchez. Sanchez completed just 10 of 20 passes for 96 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. According to Michael Bennett, the Seahawks were simply able to expose Sanchez for who he really is.

“Tell the Philadelphia police to put an ABP out,” the Seattle defensive end said, via Jarrett Bell of USA Today. “Sanchez is trying to impersonate a good quarterback.”

In reality, Sanchez hasn’t been that great. Some have argued that he is a good quarterback who simply got caught in a bad situation with the New York Jets, but Sanchez has thrown 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions in six games with the Eagles this season. He has made plenty of bad throws.

When asked what he saw in the Eagles quarterback, Bennett kept firing shots.

“The same thing everyone else saw — not much,” he said.

Sanchez’s biggest mistake on Sunday came in the fourth quarter, when he underthrew Riley Cooper and Seahawks cornerback Tharold Simon came away with an interception. The Eagles were trailing by 10 at the time, and some wondered if the bad pass was the result of a miscommunication.

“Was it a miscommunication?” Cooper said. “No. (Sanchez) knew the the route. I knew the route. I ran the route. He threw the ball.”

Sanchez agreed.

“I missed the landmark to Coop,” he said. “I just missed it. I was kind of flushing forward and I didn’t get everything that I wanted on the ball. It was just a bad throw.”

The Eagles have a critical game upcoming next Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. If they want to keep their place atop the NFC East, they’ll need Sanchez to make smarter decisions.
