Michael Bidwill: Michael Floyd was ‘unapologetic’ after DUI arrest

Michael Floyd

Arizona Cardinals president Michael Bidwill shed some light on the team’s decision to release Michael Floyd.

Floyd was arrested Monday for driving under the influence, and on Wednesday, Floyd was shown the door by the team. According to Bidwill, Floyd’s reaction to the DUI had as much to do with his release as the offense itself did.

“I was disappointed with how he handled it,” Bidwill said on the team’s pregame show Sunday, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “We asked him to be proactive in terms of his approach to this. He was unapologetic. There were a number of things. I was just not satisfied with how he handled it.”

Bidwill also stated that things Floyd was doing off the field were affecting him on it.

“We just determined, you know what? He’s just not going to play for us again,” Bidwill said. “Release him, it’s better to move on. I hope he gets healthy. I like him personally. He’s a great kid.

“I was really disappointed with how he handled this and, you know, how he was handling his approach to the game, his approach to conditioning and approach to things, and I think it was affecting him — some of his issues were affecting him on the field.”

Floyd has since been picked up by a team that has a history of reclamation projects. It sounds like Arizona had been souring on Floyd for a while and this was simply the last straw.
