Michael Irvin: I did not have sexual relations with accuser

Michael Irvin

Michael Irvin is defending himself against the allegations of sexual assault he is facing.

The Pro Football Hall of Famer is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in Ft. Lauderdale on March 21. Irvin and his attorney put up a staunch defense at the time news of the allegation emerged last week. The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver continues to defend himself, saying he has know the accuser for a long time and is “hurt” by the allegation.

“I’ve known her for almost a decade,” Irvin told TMZ Sports in an interview published on Tuesday. “I’ve never had any kind of dating relationship with her. We’ve never had any kind of sexual relationship in any way, in any form.

“I was hurt to hear about it,” he said of the allegation. “I think that maybe she doesn’t remember and maybe it’s the alcohol. But then I hear she hires this Gloria Allred, who’s a pretty good civil attorney, and then I’m like maybe I should take it for what it is.”

Irvin reiterated to TMZ that the two have never had a sexual relationship.

“We’ve never had anything. We’ve never done anything. And I’ve known her for almost a decade.”

Irvin’s attorney says his client was out at a bar with a group of friends including the woman, who then joined him and another man back at his hotel room. He says he was only in his room briefly before leaving for the airport.

The woman reportedly told authorities she felt sick and the last thing she remembered was fighting Irvin off. She thought she had been drugged and raped and consequently took a medical exam.

Irvin, 51, is currently an analyst for NFL Network.
