Mike McCarthy: Eddie Lacy’s conditioning is improving
Mike McCarthy says that Eddie Lacy’s conditioning is already improving this offseason.
The Green Bay Packers head coach expressed his dissatisfaction with Lacy’s conditioning during a disappointing 2015 NFL season. McCarthy even said in no uncertain terms that Lacy needs to lose weight. It sounds like the running back has already made progress.
“Eddie Lacy’s conditioning, I have great confidence is something that will improve and is improvement as we speak,” McCarthy told reporters at a news conference on Thursday.
New running backs coach Ben Sirmans also said that being lighter should help Lacy’s quickness and make him better.
“Being a little bit quicker and in this league, quickness and those things, they do matter,” Sirmans said.
It is believed that Lacy weighed around 260 pounds last season, which is a really high number for a running back. It’s no surprise that he consequently saw a drop in productivity with only 758 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
The former second-round pick is entering the final season of his rookie deal with the Packers.
