Mike Pouncey testifies before grand jury in Aaron Hernandez case

Mike-Pouncey-DolphinsMiami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey reportedly missed practice on Wednesday to travel to Massachusetts so he could testify before a grand jury in the Aaron Hernandez murder case. The Palm Beach Post noted that Pouncey was absent and listed as “non-injury” on the team’s Wednesday practice report.

The Dolphins are set to take on the New England Patriots on Sunday in what is virtually a must-win for Miami if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive. Instead of practicing with his teammates, Pouncey was likely answering a number of questions about his friendship with Hernandez that dates back to their playing days at the University of Florida.

As we know, Hernandez is currently in jail awaiting trial for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Pouncey and his twin brother Maurkice were photographed wearing ‘Free Hernandez’ hats shortly after Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder. Maurkice later apologized for wearing the hat, but Mike avoided the subject.

It is unclear what information investigators sought from Pouncey, as Hernandez is awaiting trial for the murder of Lloyd and prosecutors have also reportedly been pushing for him to be charged for his possible involvement in a drive-by shooting that left two dead in 2012. The fact that Pouncey was called to testify does not mean he did anything wrong. A previous report indicated that he may be asked about potential interstate gun trafficking by Hernandez.
