Mike Zimmer undergoing emergency eye surgery

Mike Zimmer

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is undergoing emergency eye surgery on Wednesday night, the team announced. The coach’s status for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys is uncertain.

Here’s a statement from Vikings GM Rick Speilman:

“Mike Zimmer is having emergency eye surgery tonight. His status for coaching tomorrow’s game is uncertain. I have met with the coaches and players and we have a contingency plan in place if Mike is unable to coach against Dallas.”

Zimmer had surgery on Nov. 1 to repair a torn retina, according to the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson. Zimmer complained he was having trouble seeing in the Vikings’ game the next day. He had been told that any delay in eye surgery could lead to blindness.

The 6-5 Vikings are looking to end the 10-1 Cowboys’ 10-game winning streak.
