Nelson Agholor not threatened by Eagles acquiring Dorial Green-Beckham

Nelson Agholor

If the Philadelphia Eagles were satisfied with what they have seen from their wide receiver group this offseason, they would not have taken a flier on someone like Dorial Green-Beckham. Nelson Agholor, who was taken ahead of Green-Beckham in the 2015 draft, might even see it as an insult.

But he insists he doesn’t.

After practice on Tuesday, Agholor said he doesn’t feel Doug Pederson and Philly’s new coaching staff was sending him or anyone else a message by trading for Green-Beckham.

“I don’t look at it as a message, I look at it as an opportunity for us to become a better football team,” Agholor said, via Les Bowen of Philly.com. “They want the same thing I want, and that’s to win football games and to be a great football team.”

At 20th overall, the Eagles drafted Agholor 20 spots ahead of Green-Beckham last year. Not only is Agholor not threatened by Green-Beckham’s presence, he describes the two as “very close.”

“I know him very well. I have a lot of respect for him,” said Agholor. “I think he’s a great football player. He’s a competitor. He’s a guy with a lot of talent, and he’s going to help us out. He’s a good person … We’re very close.”

Agholor, who has dealt with some off-field issues this summer, had a disappointing rookie season with just 23 catches for 283 yards and one touchdown. The Eagles expect much more from him in his sophomore season. While he’s not going to be cut, there are only so many spots at each position on a 53-man roster. If Green-Beckham makes the team, someone has to go.
