Report: NFL does not want Raiders to leave Oakland

Mark Davis

The Oakland Raiders are intent on seeking a move to Las Vegas, but it is a move that could reportedly be met with some opposition in league circles.

According to Steve Wyche of NFL Media, sources around the NFL believe that the league itself is opposed to the Raiders leaving Oakland, despite momentum building around a move to Las Vegas.

While Mark Davis’s fellow owners would reportedly prefer the team move to Las Vegas rather than Los Angeles, the league wants to find a way to ensure that the team can get a new stadium in the Bay Area. In fact, the league has made a new stadium for the San Diego Chargers a higher priority than Oakland’s situation.

One source was very clear in saying that the NFL’s ultimate desire was to have four stadiums in California, thus avoiding further moves. The league would, apparently, prefer to keep teams in Oakland, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

Of course, Bay Area fans don’t want to see the Raiders go either. The situation looks to be pretty fluid, but the league seems intent on trying to put the brakes on any Raiders moves for as long as possible.
