Odell Beckham Jr. downplays injured thumb
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had to briefly exit his team’s 27-13 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with a thumb injury, but he doesn’t appear to think it will be a major problem going forward.
Beckham, who has been dealing with the injured digit for the last two weeks, downplayed concerns about in on Wednesday.
“I think in a sense it doesn’t really hurt me because now I have to focus more on catching the ball,” Beckham said, per Dan Duggan of NJ.com. “I have to really lock in the focus of where you’re placing your hands. I’ve kind of noticed it actually almost make me be able to catch better, minus the pain of what it is. It allows me to lock into another focus.
“There’s not really much you can do at this point and time in the season,” the two-time Pro Bowler continued. “You’ve kind of just got to play with it.”
Beckham, who has also been plagued by prevalent character concerns this season, didn’t seem to be affected by the injury against the Browns, recording six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns. With the Giants currently second in the NFC East at 8-3, Beckham’s level of pain tolerance could wind up being the determining factor of how far the team ultimately goes this year.
