Odell Beckham ‘geeked’ about Giants hiring Pat Shurmur

New York Giants fans may have been hoping their team would make a bigger splash than Pat Shurmur when hiring a new head coach, but Odell Beckham Jr. seems just fine with the decision.

Shortly after reports surfaced on Monday that the Giants are expected to name Shurmur their next head coach, Beckham took to Twitter to give his new boss a warm welcome.

It’s tough to know if Shurmur was the Giants’ first choice or if they would have preferred someone like Josh McDaniels, but you can understand why Beckham is excited for the future. In his first full season as the offensive coordinator with the Vikings this year, Shurmur has Minnesota in the NFC Championship Game and has revitalized what was once a very boring offense.

Beckham sees that Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen have become one of the best wide receiver duos in football while catching passes from Case Keenum, so the sky should be the limit for OBJ under Shurmur. Thielen caught 91 passes for 1,276 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season, while Diggs had 64 catches for 849 yards and eight scores. Diggs also made one of the most memorable plays in NFL postseason history on Sunday.

If Shurmur can turn Thielen and Diggs into two of the most dangerous weapons in football, a more talented receiver like Beckham has every right to be excited about working for him.
