Packer Fan Lost Toes Watching Game

I’ve heard some crazy stories about Packer fans recently. Truthfully, you don’t have to go much further than the bikini-clad crew sporting just bra-tops while they watched the Packers-Giants game in the freezing cold to know all you need to about fans of the Pack. But in case that didn’t do it for you, then maybe this story will. Former Packers running back Dorsey Levens was on The Arnie Spanier Show on Sporting News Radio last night and offered this nugget:

In the state of Wisconsin, there’s cheese and there’s Green Bay Packer football. And so you bring cheese to the game and you have a good time. It’s a very unique place in that it’s so cold and guys still come out and tailgate. NFC Championship for example — we played the Carolina Panthers in ’97. It was 17 below and guys were still tailgating four hours before the game. The guy who put in my alarm system in Green Bay, [he’s a] diabetic — wouldn’t leave the game, had to get three toes amputated after the NFC Championship Game. If I had him on this show right now and asked him if he would do it again, he would say ‘you know what, I got seven good toes that I can lose, if I can go to that game, I’ll stay the entire game.’ He has not one regret about doing that.

Well duh, they’re only toes right? What do you really need them for anyway? What Dorsey didn’t make clear however, was whether the fan lost the toes because of frostbite or because of his diabetic condition. Either way, that’s some serious dedication. Ronnie Lott would be proud.
