Report: Packers have interest in Allen Robinson, Sammy Watkins

Allen Robinson

The Green Bay Packers are reportedly interested in bringing in some new weapons for Aaron Rodgers, and that could spell bad news for his old ones.

Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network Monday that the Packers are among the teams that have shown interest in Watkins, who was not franchise tagged by the Los Angeles Rams last week. Green Bay is also said to be keeping an eye on Allen Robinson, which seems to indicate they are in the market for a No. 1 wide receiver.

The Packers already have Jordy Nelson occupying their top wideout spot, but he will turn 33 before next season and isn’t nearly as explosive as he used to be. The same can be said for Randall Cobb, who is several years younger but is scheduled to count nearly $13 million against the cap in 2018. Nelson’s cap hit is just slightly less, so it would not be a surprise if the Packers decided to move on from one or both of them.

Rodgers will probably have a say in some of the roster moves Green Bay makes, but it would be tough to imagine him arguing against the team signing Watkins or Robinson. The Packers should have plenty of competition for both star receivers.
