Report: Patriots ‘hopeful’ both Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett will be active

Jimmy Garoppolo injury

Despite coming away from their Week 3 win with a very grim outlook at the quarterback position, the New England Patriots could have both Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett available for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported on Tuesday that the Patriots are “hopeful” both players will be active.

It would be a surprise at this point if either Garoppolo or Brissett is not the starter on Sunday. If both were dealing with any type of serious injury, the Patriots almost certainly would have signed a veteran backup on Monday.

Brissett, who was filling in for an injured Garoppolo who was filling in for the suspended Tom Brady, suffered a thumb injury last Thursday against the Houston Texans. Initial reports indicated he would need surgery, but it does not sound like the injury is serious. Garoppolo hurt his shoulder the week before when he took a nasty hit from Miami Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso. You can see a video of the play here.

New England is off to a surprising 3-0 start and will look to make it 4-0 before Brady returns.
