Patriots make history in first quarter of Super Bowl

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots made some surprising history in the first quarter of Super Bowl LII.

When the Patriots kicked a field goal to close their first offensive possession, it was a new experience for Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.

The three points coming off the leg of Stephen Gostkowski marked the first time the Patriots had scored in the first quarter of a Super Bowl under Belichick and Brady. They had not scored in the first quarter of any of their seven previous appearances.

Getting points early seemed to be a good sign for New England, but you have to wonder whether they like it too much given their past success in Super Bowls. Maybe deviating from their previous form isn’t the greatest thing.
