Patriots seeking ways to configure stadium to hang fifth Super Bowl banner
When the New England Patriots opened Gillette Stadium in 2002, they left space for four Super Bowl banners, not expecting to need any more than that.
Now that Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and co. have won their fifth in 15 years, the team is trying to figure out where to put the new marker. According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots are currently contemplating ways to accommodate a fifth Super Bowl banner.
Reiss notes that renovations had to be made to recognize the Patriots’ victory in Super Bowl XLIX two years ago, and a similar process will be undertaken this time around as well.
It would have been pretty presumptuous to expect this many banners back when the team was planning the place. We’ve clearly moved past that point.
