Patriots reportedly may trade or cut Danny Amendola

Danny Amendola PatriotsThe New England Patriots may have plans to get rid of Danny Amendola this offseason, according to a report.

Dan Pompei, a veteran NFL insider currently with Bleacher Report, says the Patriots have floated Amendola’s name in trade talks. Pompei adds that there has been speculation that the Patriots may cut Amendola if they’re unable to work a trade.

The speculation about Amendola being cut came from The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, who suggested the Pats could cut Amendola after June 1. According to Volin, cutting Amendola then would bring cap charges of $1.2 million in 2014 and $3.6 million in 2015.

Amendola signed a five-year, $28.5 million deal with the Patriots last year that included $10 million guaranteed. He only played in 12 games, catching 54 passes for 633 yards and two touchdowns.

Amendola was signed to be the replacement in the offense for Wes Welker, but he disappointed across the board and missed games for the third straight season.
