Paul Kruger will reportedly visit Saints, Chiefs

The Cleveland Browns made the surprising decision to release Paul Kruger on Monday, and it sounds like the veteran linebacker will have no trouble finding work elsewhere.

Kruger, who had two years remaining on a five-year, $40.5 million deal, has meetings lined up with at least two teams. ESPN’s Mike Triplett and Adam Schefter are reporting that Kruger will visit the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday and the Kansas City Chiefs after that.

Coming off a career-high 11 sacks in 2014, Kruger recorded just 2.5 last season despite appearing in all 16 games. As Triplett notes, Saints head coach Sean Payton said after Friday’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that the pass rush is “very concerning.” New Orleans also pursued Kruger when he was a free agent in 2013, so it makes sense they are once again interested.

Kruger, 30, was clearly unhappy about the Browns cutting him loose. That became very clear when he released a statement addressing the decision. He’ll likely end up with multiple offers to choose from.
