Pep Hamilton: Robert Griffin III ‘can be what he was his rookie year and more’

Robert Griffin

Cleveland Browns associate head coach Pep Hamilton is apparently a big-time Robert Griffin III stan.

Hamilton said on Friday that he believes the Browns quarterback still has great things in store for the future.

“Without a doubt, he has the potential to be what he was his rookie year and more,” Hamilton said, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “He’s tough. He’s smart. He’s a guy that’s proven that he can have success in this league.

“It is just a matter of whether or not he can get caught up with this group of guys with regards to the time that they’ve had in the system,” added Hamilton. “Throughout the time that he was out, he was very attentive and astute in every meeting and always involved.”

Griffin reclaimed his starting duties last Sunday after a three-month absence due to a shoulder injury but stunk up the joint in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The player who racked up 27 total touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2012 has been a Ghost of Christmas Past for years now, leaving Hamilton as perhaps the last remaining inhabitant of RG3 Island.

Still, the Browns are now only three losses away from becoming just the second team in NFL history to go 0-16, so maybe we should cut them some slack and let them hang onto their false glimmers of hope wherever they can.
