Pete Carroll confirms MCL sprain for Russell Wilson, says QB ‘feels great’

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Monday that Russell Wilson suffered a sprained MCL during Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers.

While Carroll would not guarantee Wilson will play against the New York Jets next weekend, he gave plenty of reason for optimism, noting that the quarterback “feels great.”

“We’re going to do the right thing,” Carroll said of Wilson’s status for Week 4, per ESPN’s Sheil Kapadia. “We’re going to be very careful.”

Wilson has never missed a game during his five-year NFL career, but this is about as banged up as he’s been. He suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 1 and could have had a much worse fate on Sunday with the way his leg bent awkwardly underneath him. You can see a video of the play here.

No one should be surprised if Wilson guts it out and plays against New York, but he’s almost certain to be at less than 100 percent health.
