Pete Carroll: Seahawks did not reach out to Randy Moss

Randy Moss has not played in the NFL since the 2012 season, but he said last week that he would not mind coming out of retirement to play with a great quarterback like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. The seven-time Pro Bowler also confirmed a report from FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer that the Seattle Seahawks reached out to him at one point.

When asked on Wednesday about his team contacting Moss, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll basically called both Moss and Glazer liars.

“Thanks for asking that. That never happened. That never happened,” Carroll said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “Nobody asked that question, and, you know, that’s never happened.”

Carroll then took a lighthearted jab at Terrell Owens.

“I won’t say that I didn’t get a call from T.O., though,” he joked.

That part is probably true. Owens spent the preseason with the Seahawks in 2012 but was cut before the start of the regular season. His agent said last summer that TO was in talks with a bunch of teams, which probably means Owens was calling teams like Seattle and trying to find work.

The Seahawks lack a legitimate deep threat, but it hasn’t prevented them from winning. It seems odd that Glazer — one of the most respected reporters in the NFL — would report that the Seahawks contacted Moss and Moss would confirm it if didn’t happen. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Seahawks kicked the tires on Moss, even if their interest was very mild.
