Peyton Manning expected to backup for Broncos Sunday
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that if all goes well this week, Peyton Manning will serve as Brock Osweiler’s backup on Sunday.
Kubiak also reaffirmed that Osweiler remains the starter.
“Brock’s our quarterback — nothing has changed from that standpoint,” Kubiak told reporters on Wednesday. “[Manning] being available is a change.
“[Manning’s] throwing the ball well. Last week was a very positive sign.”
Kubiak noted that he has been talking constantly with Manning about the next step and the two are on the same page. At the same time, he stood fully behind Osweiler as the starter.
“[Osweiler] is our guy,” Kubiak said. “He’s doing a hell of a job. We’ll keep moving forward.”
The Broncos need a win or tie against San Diego or a Kansas City loss or tie to clinch the AFC West title on Sunday.
