Peyton Manning declines to comment on possible retirement
Peyton Manning declined to comment on his potential retirement after winning the Super Bowl on Sunday in a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. Instead he decided to focus the conversation on other things.
“I’ll take some time to reflect. I’ve got a couple of priorities. First I want to kiss my wife and my kids. I want to go hug my family. I’m going to take care of those things first. Definitely going to say a little prayer, thank the man upstairs for this great opportunity. I’m just very grateful,” Manning said in his postgame interview with Tracy Wolfson.
After the interview, CBS’ Jim Nantz began to speak and commented that there was “no way” Manning was going to upstage winning the Super Bowl by announcing his retirement. That seems to mean to me that Manning talked about his plans with Nantz ahead of time and let him know that he wouldn’t tip his plans after the game.
Manning is 39 and just won his second Super Bowl in what was the worst season of his career. He missed games because of injury and also lost his job to Brock Osweiler for a spell. Would he want to return to the league when he’s no longer a very good QB? It remains to be seen. He can now walk away on top of the game. He might want to do just that.
