Philly mayor calls LeSean McCoy ‘cowardly,’ says he should pay

LeSean McCoy Bills

LeSean McCoy is still waiting to see if he will face assault charges stemming from a nightclub brawl early Sunday morning, and the mayor of Philadelphia is hoping a warrant is forthcoming.

On Thursday, Mayor Jim Kenney weighed in on allegations that McCoy assaulted two off-duty police officers. Kenney said he is not sure why the district attorney’s office has waited this long to file charges.

“I’m not a law enforcement person. It’s up to the D.A. — police and the D.A. That’s how it works,” he said, via CBS Philly. “Obviously, nothing good happens after midnight.”

Kenney acknowledged that he had seen the video of the incident.

“In addition to punches being thrown, there were some kicks that looked as if they were being leveled and that’s unconscionable and it’s cowardly,” he added. “If [McCoy] wants to stomp our officers and pound our officers, then he needs to pay the price and answer for his action.”

Here’s the video Kenney was referring to:

The district attorney’s office is likely trying to build a strong case before charging McCoy and anyone else involved. You can read more details about the incident here. McCoy has said he will turn himself in if a warrant is issued.
