Plaxico Burress indicted on charges of failing to pay income taxes

Plaxico-Burress

Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been indicted on charges that he failed to pay nearly $50,000 in New Jersey state income taxes.

According to James McEvoy of the Times of Trenton, Burress is facing one count of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer and one count of willful failure to pay state tax. If convicted, the 37-year-old would face a maximum penalty of five years in state prison and a $15,000 fine.

Burress reportedly filed his 2013 state income tax return with the New Jersey Division of Taxation, but an electronic payment that was supposed to cover the $47,903 he owed to the state did not go through. When Burress was alerted that his transaction had not been posted, he did not respond.

As we know, Burress has had plenty of issues with money both during and after his football career ended in 2012. His driver’s license was suspended in 2013 after he refused to pay the judgment, and a court ordered that one of his homes be sold at auction shortly after that incident. Burress has a very long history with bouncing checks, being a terrible driver and failing to pay taxes and fines.
