Report: Raiders trying to acquire Marshawn Lynch’s rights

The Oakland Raiders lost their starting running back this week when Latavius Murray signed with the Minnesota Vikings, and they apparently have big plans to replace him — very big plans, in fact.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson are reporting that the Raiders are trying to figure out a way to acquire Marshawn Lynch’s rights from the Seattle Seahawks.

Interestingly enough, the report comes on the heels of Raiders broadcaster Greg Papa teasing to listeners of his radio show on Thursday that the team has been in talks with “a certain running back.” When Papa’s 95.7 The Game co-host hinted that he was referring to Adrian Peterson, Papa said he was talking about someone else.

“No, no, no, no, no, not any of the people you are thinking about,” he said, per Daniel Mano of the Bay Area News Group. ““He did not even play in the NFL last year. I’ll leave it there. Chew on that.”

Lynch, who is from Oakland and played high school football there, will turn 31 in April. There have been rumblings that he could come out of retirement to play again at some point, but Lynch has gotten downright angry (good example here) when asked if he is truly done playing. The Seahawks still hold his rights, so they would have to either release the running back or trade him to Oakland. While intriguing, the idea seems very farfetched.
