Rams will not simplify offense for Jared Goff

Jared Goff

Don’t expect to see a simplified version of the Los Angeles Rams offense for Jared Goff’s benefit.

Offensive coordinator Rob Boras said that the offense would be tinkered with for Goff’s debut, but not dumbed down.

“It’s the same amount of plays, the same package,” Boras said, via Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. “We trust with where he is mentally.”

Quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke said the offense would be designed to play to Goff’s strengths and put him in the best possible position to win.

“We’re not scaling back,” Weinke said. “This kid understands what we’re trying to do on offense, he’s able to execute it. He had a good day of practice [on Wednesday], we expect him to have another good day on Friday. In terms of our approach as a staff, putting a game plan together, we’re obviously smart enough to say, ‘Hey, listen, we know what this kid does well, and we’re going to lean on those things.’ But we’re not going to scale back for him. We don’t need to.”

It sounds like Goff has the job to lose for the remainder of the season. It also sounds like the Rams are going to turn him loose, play to his strengths, and see just how ready he is.
